We have to use a "J" name, and the middle name will be Brock for sentimental reasons. The names we are considering are: Justus Judson Jaden/Jadon Jonah Jackson/Jaxon I used to teach and have associations with most common J names like Joshua, James or Justin, so they don't really appeal to me. Our other children have somewhat trendy names. What do you like or do you have any other suggestions?

We are renaming because of adoption and were told by the family (without even asking) that we could change his name. He is an adorable blonde haired blue-eyed little boy with a wonderful personality. He has been called by his nickname for so long (and will continue to do so)that the name change won't really affect him. Normally, I would not encourage a name change for a child his age, but we don't really have an option. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi Marie -

Congrats on the adoption!

If trendy is what you're going for, Jaden/Jadon, Jonah and Jackson/Jaxon fit the bill really well.

Justus is a nice name, but there's a good chance it'll be misspelled "Justice" a lot.

Thank you, Nancy! When we chose our other childrens' names - Avery (girl) and Cade (boy), we liked them because they were different (not too common) but not too unusual either. Unfortunately, they have become very popular in the last couple of years. Jaden is a name we really liked about 8 years ago, but it has also become very common, and we are concerned that it is used almost as much for girls as boys now. I would say we are kind of in the middle for names that we like - we don't like traditional names and we don't like extremely unique names either...any suggestions for names somewhere in the middle would be great! :)

Hi, I too prefer unusual or unique names opposed to traditionl or common names. My suggestions are: Jag Jordan(not used as much these days) Jericho Jacob/Jakob is getting a little more attention but I also like this name for a boy. Out of the names you chose I like Jonah. Wishing you luck with choosing a name!

Jaden is tricky because it's spelled dozens of ways (Jayden, Jaidon, Jaedyn, etc.). Some of these spellings are just as common for girls as they are for boys, while others are nearly boys-only. Overall, the Jaden "group" of names is used more often for boys, but a sizable minority of girls do get the name every year as well, so I think it's wise to be concerned about gender.

Here are a few other ideas:

Jasper
Jett
Judah
Julius
