Hi Everyone!

Well the 36 pounds of dog food finally arrived via UPS that my boyfriend's son who is in the Air Force had shipped to our house. Anyone want to take bets on the food spoiling before the two dogs use it? Keep in mind that one is a tiny Jack Russell Terrier (Jeremiah) and the other is our "famous" 3 legged Pitt Bull (Bobbie, female).

On the other hand, I am so GLAD he did this as we are taking care of them both while he is on base. But they have become OUR's and I dread the possibility of him getting them if he gets stationed somewhere where he can have them frown

But we are ENJOYING them, we have had Jeremiah for over a year and just got Bobbie.

Anyone else got any of those HUGE bags?

You have to keep out air, pests, and moisture. Dog food does have some amount of fat in it, so it'll eventually go rancid, especially if you're in a warm climate.
This is a terrific site with a lot of good information about pet food storage:
http://www.dogfoodscoop.com/pet-food-storage.html
You could also visit some survivalist web sites, and research food storage (try to avoid the crazy. lol) like SurvivalBlog: http://www.survivalblog.com/2010/11/letter_re_advice_on_stored_foo.html
I know a few people who store food for their dogs; mostly, they do it using food safe buckets with mylar liners, using some dry ice to both kill the bugs and displace the oxygen in the bucket. It's detailed in James Wesley, Rawles' book : http://www.amazon.com/How-Survive-End-World-Know/dp/0452295831
Good luck! smile
