Whenever I address someone with "Hello, " I tend to follow with "How are you today?"

Most people give a run down of how they are actually feeling and this sometimes sparks a simple conversation. I walk away feeling pretty much the same as when I arrived on the scene.

This morning, my UPS man responded, "Feeling fine. Living the dream." I love that! He has certainly made my day. I'm still amazed at how infectious joyful energy is.

So, "how are you today?"

"How are you today" is something my 3 1/3 yr old is working on at preschool. She will tell me she is "very fine thank you" when you ask her.

Me...I am good today! Hopefully gonna get some spring cleaning done, or at least spring clean the puppy lol!

Got some spring cleaning done and just brushed the puppy. He was outside with my grandaugher digging in the sandbox and then rolling around in the sand so I was glad I hadn't given him a bath already!! It was a beautiful day...the sun was shining and it felt so good on my face. I felt like I'd been living under a rock somewhere. Visited with my neighbor while the girls played outside and dinner turned out perfect. Will have to try again tommorow for another perfect day!

Today I am feeling happy, I am looking quite pretty in my gray outfit and excited about going out for lunch with my office colleagues.

I always have problems with this question. I assume people literally want to know how i am doing, so i start to tell them.

At some point i realize they just wanted me to say, "fine." That 'how are you' is just a greeting and not a query.

It's a social thing that has been an issue my whole life. Does anyone else ever find this to happen?

Yes Jilly, I know exactly what you mean! I think sometimes people are sorry they asked me how I was and should've just said hello!

Maybe "How are you?" is the perfect opportunity for you to make your day a little brighter. When I am not having the best moment, but am asked this question. I find that I quickly assess my situation and realize that it is not as bad as I thought. So, I end up responding, "Not so bad," with a smile.
