The Killing is a Danish detective series with sub titles. So far I have watched twelve episodes and the great thing is I still haven't guessed 'who dun it'! Usually with murder plots I have guessed who the murderer is before the end but this series has kept me glued to the screen.

Has anyone else watched it? I have been watching it on BBC iplayer.

Hi! No - I haven't seen it but have checked it out - reviews etc - and seems it's every bit as good as you say, Linda. Apparently there's a second series planned on the Beeb later in the year, and Lund's jumper is now de rigeuer in Denmark. Makes a change from female power dressing! I'll try to catch repeats.

It is quite interesting. The jumpers(sweaters) are different from a famous female detective's wardrobe who smokes, but I love Mirren(sp?).

The BBC have put on a few Scandinavian detective series. I have a fascination for the language, it sounds so strange, but at times it sounds just like English.

I hope they do bring a second series out. I for one am a fan of Sarah Lund.

OK - should have kept up to speed on this one. It's on BBC 4 as we speak ie 11.55pm for an hour - though I have no idea what is going on as have missed all progs in series up to now. But that pullover! Does she always wear the same one btw? It's fab and I want it! Oh and I guess she must have more than one...right? Sorry to be so trivial but hey, I don't know the storyline. It all just looks so cool and dusky and yes - the language sounds intriguing, sort of German, no? But then English has Anglo Saxon roots so I can see (hear) the familiarity that you point out Linda. I like the silence that surrounds the dialogue instead of clashing background noise/music.

Hi Eileen,

Sarah Lund has several jumpers that she wears, white on black, black on white, grey on white, with similar patterns. It is definitely a theme for her along with the nicotine gum she is always chewing to stop smoking.

It is an amazing storyline because it happens over 20 days. They blame one guy, then another, then another until now at episode 16 yet another guy is a suspect. They were all plausible suspects too. Still I don't know 'who dun it'! I am learning Danish too lol, well i know Tag means thanks, they are polite and say it a lot.

The whole cast is amazing and have their own funny little quirks, Sarah has her own little story going on because she is supposed to be leaving Denmark to go and live in Sweden with her boyfriend, but the case has kept her alienated from her family and now the police force.

If you do get a chance to sit and watch the whole thing I thoroughly recommend it.

It is a pity the BBC don't use our licence fee to make or buy other interesting and entertaining programs like this.

Linda

Hi Linda,

I tried watching an episode on Saturday night but am torn - it looks every bit as good as it is reputed to be, but I hate coming late to the party! I need to see it all, from the off. When it is on iplayer in its entirety I shall catch up.

Oh and I do love Aunty Beeb - if only because you are not bombarded with ads all the time, and thus prey to the influence of manufacturers and corporations. Mind you - it can be handy if you fancy a cuppa!

Eileen
