Hi - I hope you can help a little. We have had my lovely cat for 4 years ... she is a fantastic cat - one of the nicest I have known. She was a street cat who followed us home when she was just a baby. She is called Co Co. Now ... a year ago we got a dog .. we didn't really intend to get a dog - he is not a rescue dog - but one who needed re-homeing - ( his previous owners were going through a messy divorce - had to sell their house etc ...). Anyway - we took the dog (golfo ... a common spanish name for dogs - translates roughly to 'goofy') on the proviso that the cat got used to him ok. Which se did - or so we thought. Within a week Co Co had definitely asserted herself - and the poor dog is suitably in his place smile
About 6 months ago Co Co started peeing - or 'marking her territory' various places in the house - mostly the kitchen. I have tried everything I can think of to stop this - I can't spray her with water as I rarely see her do it anymore - I have tried rubbing her nose in it - I have tried everything I can think of - she just doesn't seem to get it! Previous to this she had been perfectly toilet trained for 3.5 years - we have a large garden - so she is an indoor outdoor cat.
My questions are
1. do you think this is a reaction to the dog and she is angry or marking her territory?
2. any advice on how I stop it - it drives me mad to walk into my kitchen and smell cat pee - apart from the fact that it is most un-hygenic - I have two children (6 and 4). She is actually getting clever and 'hiding' where she does it!
3. I wonder why it took her 6 months after we got the dog to start?
4. about the same time she started she had a problem with her eyes - the inner lid wasn't opening properly - the vet gave her anti-biotics etc which did seem to fix it - but did say that if the treatment she gave didn't work it could be something neurological ... I do wonder if maybe something has 'gone a little wrong' and she doesn't know se is doing it ... I think this is unlikely as it is rare that she does it in front of anyone ....

would love any advice!!
regards
Cynthia

Cynthia,

You might be right about your little Co Co being angry. Perhaps she waited so long to start her 'campaign' because she was hoping the dog would leave...

As a cat owner, I know that every once in a blue moon they will leave a 'package' to let you know they are angry --but how else can they say it? How will they get our attention? The don't speak 'human.' smile

I wish you all the best, and I'll bet I'm not the only one who'd like an update on Situation Co Co...

Maybe she jealous....I don't see other reason to do that, you can consult with vet, I think he will give you the best advice.
