MegL, I totally agree! I have been playing around a lot with L'Oreal's Color Truth Cream Eyeliner. I have hazel eyes so I use the Eggplant. It just takes a few minutes to apply, lasts all day and the color is subtle enough to draw attention to my eyes without having to spent the time on eyeshadow.

Great article, Kim! I haven't worn eyeliner in years as my upper lids are slowly starting to droop a little as I, ahem, age. I'm not sure if it would look good or not now and if I should just stick with mascara and eyeshadow. I also have hazel eyes, rimmed in blue. I've never used a green liner, but am thinking I'll try the Eggplant you mentioned as I also like a subtle look. I used to always go with a black/brown liner -- same with my mascara. When I was in my 20s I often wore blue liner because I had read somewhere that it brings out the whites in your eyes, better. Don't know if that's true or even fashionable any more.

Donna- That's funny you mentioned it because blue is being touted as the trendy eyeliner color for this spring (along with orange lipstick which I just can't get on board with)! There are beautiful navys and denim colors, and I also read before about how that is supposed to bring out the whites. Anything in a dark purple or green, or even bronze would look great on your eyes!

Eyeliner Supplement: Tips & Tricks

What is the best eyeliner to use for mature women? As we get older and skin thins out, especially around your eyes, the eyeliner that worked great in your 20s is going to need to be changed to a gentler, softer formula. Black can be a bit harsh, so a softer brown or bonze is going to be more flattering. Two kinds of eyeliners to avoid include a dryer pencil that requires tugging on already thin skin, and liquid liner which can be unforgiving and will accentuate any fine liners. An easy to apply gel or cream will glide on and give you a more flattering look. Another tip: Just want to apply to the top lids. Application on the bottom lid will likely end up making your eyes appears smaller.

What is a good beginning liner for teens? Teens definitely dont need to use much liner, but can also get away most any kind and can pull off experimenting with vibrant colors. Rather than lining both upper and lower lids, a fun look for teenagers is to apply a line of a colorful, fun liner. Remember the occasion thoughyou wouldnt wear a glitter liner to church! Softer colors look great on teenagers to just enhance the eye.

Should I use white eyeliner on the bottom lids of my eye to make my eyes brighter? I recommend against this. If you have sensitive eyes or wear contacts, you can easily hurt yourself. Instead, you can apply white eyeliner as you would on your top lid and bottom lid (not on your inner eyelid itself), and go over the white with a different colored eyeliner and layer. Another tip is to dab a small bit of white liner, shadow or highlighter on your tear ductsemphasis on small. This will help brighten your eyes.

I have trouble wearing eyeliner because my eyes are so sensitive and I have contactssuggestions? First of all, check your liner is labeled hypoallergenic or non comedogenic. Those words basically mean the product went through extra testing and is dermatologically approved. Avoid any eye makeup containing look out for ingredients such as nickel or rosin. Liquid liner may irritate your eyes because it may contain latex. Recommendation: A cream liner. Gentle, easy to apply and a variety of beautiful colors.

Feel free to ask any more qustions or chime in with your own advice smile

That's interesting that blue is back in! lol I agree with the you on the orange lipstick; not for me! I've never looked for colorful liners other than the blue and black/brown so will keep my eyes peeled on my next shopping spree. My daughter is in her early 20s and she loves to experiment with her eyes and has been doing a cat's eye look with her liner lately. She is also totally into glitter. She has a wonderful set of thick lashes that she inherited from her Dad's side of the family; mine are exasperatingly sparse! I have always loved the color of my eyes, but my sparse eyelashes and sparse eyebrows make it challenging for me to decide what to do with makeup around the eyes. I love a very natural look so think I'll experiment with the bronze and green you mentioned. Do you recommend any specific brands?

Hi Donna!

It all depends on how much you can spend.

Drugstore- (Under $10)

*Wet n Wild color Icon Shimmer Eye Pencil in Blue or Copper
*Maybelline Define-A-Line Eyeliner in Navy Blue or Rich Raisin
*Revlon Luxurious Color Eyeliner in Blackened Sapphire (BEAUTIFUL color!)

High-End (Over $10)

*Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Pencil in Bourbon (this is SUCH a flattering color and the liner goes on so smooth, priced around $18)
*Bare Escentuals Liner Shadow in Black Emerald (it's only online and runs about $13)
*Clinique Quickliner in Intense Plum (a darker purple), Moss or Slate (around $14).

I hope this helps out smile
