What are the best Clara Bow films? I know that she was the "It Girl" and the inspiration for Betty Boop, but I am not very familiar with her films. I recently saw her in "Wings," which I thoroughly enjoyed. I am beginning to become a big fan of 1920's movies, and I want to learn more!!!

Hello! I'm so happy to hear that you are interested in Clara Bow because not a lot of people know about her. Unfortunately, they rarely play her collection of films that have survived on television. A few of her "talkies" still exist though - "Call Her Savage" (1933) is a good one and "The Saturday Night Kid" (1929) which is really cute and features a young Jean Harlow in a few scenes.

I'm a huge fan of Clara Bow and if you visit my Classic Film column here on Bellaonline, I have quite a collection of articles about her including a review of her biography by David Stenn. I hope that helps!

Hey, thanks, Amber! I've been waiting for someone to reply to my question. I went into a DVD store the other day and asked the kid who worked there if they had any Clara Bow movies, and you should have seen the totally blank, dumb stare he gave me! So I asked him if he had any old, classic movies... and he directed me to a section with movies from the 80's and 90's!

Yes, there is something about Clara, Jean, Marlene, and those other women from the 20's and early 30's -- and the amazing clothes and the entire style from that era -- that I find totally captivating and engrossing! I need to see more!!!

I'll look into the films you mention and your column and articles.

Thanks again! smile

Hi again Amber,
Do you also like Thelma Todd? I discovered her while watching Laurel and Hardy films, though she also appeared in many dramatic roles. I understand that her death in 1935 at age 29 is shrouded in mystery... no one seems to know if it was suicide, murder, and some kind of illness.
