I would love to know what everyone considers a 'pot' and what they consider a 'pan'! My husband calls everything for cooking a pan - and uses the word 'pot' only for flower pots and the like. Talking to some of my friends it seems there is a huge discrepancy between terms people use. My firend says a 'pot' has two handles and a 'pan' one.

I generally think a 'pot' is deep and a 'pan' shallow.

What do you think?

A saucepan is not shallow, but does have one handle. I guess that would technically be a pan, since that's in the name. A soup pot generally has two, and I would never think to call it a pan.

I'm not sure if it's a formal definition, but I think your friend might be on to something.... :-)
