"Young Grandma" may seem like a contradiction in terms, but yes, I am 46 and have two grandchildren. I am looking to get back into the work force. Office casual is what I'm aiming for.
I love office casual!
My challenge: I am 5'6" and a size 22/24. I'm losing weight, used to be a size 26/28, but that will happen slowly since a physical disability from a car accident keeps me from getting much exercise. I walk with a cane, and sometimes when shopping I must use a motor cart. For that reason, it would probably be best to stick to longer skirts or slacks, as you can't ride a motor cart with your knees completely together. Recently I discovered via photo that I actually look better in slacks and jeans than I do in skirts, but I like to look feminine.
It sounds like you know what you like. A few places that come to mind for long skirts are J. Jill and Ulla Popken both of which also have petite. I'm assuming you live in the U.S. Both businesses are online.
My hair is brown/black with no visible gray, and I am allergic to hair coloring so I can't change that. My eyes are green. I prefer a warm color palette. I don't like the trend not to wear panty hose, since my legs are pale and scarred. High heels are frightening to me, since I don't walk well as it is. I probably shouldn't go higher than 1-1/2 to 2 inches.
Bare legs are not appropriate for every. Luckily tights are totally hot last year and this year. The best place for a multitude of colors (including basics) in plus sizes is We Love Colors. You can match them to your outfit or go neutral. And not only are heels in but so are flats. You can find some affordable flats at Payless or Zappos.
I'm asking for advice here because at other sites I have seen the question asked, "What looks good on a plus-size woman?" And the answers come back "a burlap sack" or something like that. I'm hoping to get well-thought-out advice here. Thank you in advance.
Hope this helps.
