what is faith and can everyone have it? Is it automatic to some extent? Can you ask for more? What if you sincerely ask and you don't get it? Do you have to DO anything to get it? If you don't have it are you just lost?

Faith is the belief in something you cannot see or hold.
Faith is the unflinching belief in something when others tell you that something doesn't or can't possibly exist.
Faith is the belief that you are loved unconditionally whether you return the love or not.
As a Christian I have faith that God is real and that Jesus Christ is real and did indeed die for me so that my belief in Him will allow me into the Kingdom of Heaven when my soul leaves this vessel that it is in now. When someone accepts Jesus as his/her Lord and Savior, I mean really believes and accepts it, that is where the faith begins.
If you (rhetorically) fail to believe that God exists or if someone allows you to question His existence, then you don't have real faith.
Faith, simply is, an unshakable belief that something truly exists without physically seeing, hearing or touching that something and you either have it or you don't.
That's my best description of faith, maybe someone else has a different explanation of it.

RavenNevermore, Faith is a decision to trust, and is available to everyone. I live my life trusting in what Jesus accomplished on my behalf. Anyone can do that--faith is not an emotion you must feel to make it real. Just as you might trust a surgeon and put your life in his hands, even if you're terrified, so you can deliberately trust God with your life and your eternal destiny, even if you can't always feel absolutely sure or easy about it. Faith is a gift from God, and you certainly can ask for more--the disciples asked Jesus to increase their faith. You can be sure that faith is in the very center of His will for you, so ask for more! You may not feel much emotion of faith or believing. That's okay. I'm with the man who cried out to Jesus in Mark 9: Jesus said to him, "If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes." Immediately the father of the (demon possessed) child cried out and said with tears, "Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!" Jesus healed his child, even though the man obviously felt he didn't have enough faith. No one is lost unless they choose to be--if they reject Christ and refuse to put their trust in Him. Scripture also says that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. So the best advice is, open your Bible and read-read-read. Pray, and read some more. Pray-pray-pray, read some more. (Get the idea?) God deeply desires for you to be reconciled with Him, and is ready to help the moment you will allow Him.

The bible teaches that faith comes from hearing the word of God(i.e.)faith comes by hearing and hearing is by the word of God.
God gives you a portion of faith when you are "born again" through your beliving in Jesus Christ as Gods' only begotten
Son.
Everyone who comes to Jesus Christ will have faith.

Everyone who comes to Jesus Christ will have faith. But don't you need faith to come to Jesus Christ in the first place? How can you believe in Him and come to Him if you don't have the faith that He is real to begin with?

Vance, I just wouldn't worry about splitting that hair. Faith is trust. You live out trust with action--in this case, committing your life into Jesus' care. Scripture repeats over and over that God loves everyone, and wants everyone to be reconciled to Him. He's so serious about that, that He does/has done everything needed to enable it to happen, even giving us faith as a gift. What the person seeking Christ needs to do is only fall forward into His arms. When you do that, you are trusting Him, and that is faith.

Having Faith is trusting someone. Firstly having Faith in god is the biggest faith and you can never loose. Secondly having faith in yourself is the biggest asset within yourself and I think when you have faith in yourself, there is no task that is unachievable. Thirdly having faith on your parents is also a very support from them. Rest all is fake, you just cannot predict that who will keep your faith and who is going to break it so don't ever trust without thinking 1000 times.

Hebrews 11:1 says "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Hebrews 11:6 says that "without faith it is impossible to please him (God)..."
God would not be just if He didn't place within our hands the means of obtaining faith. Romans 10:17 tells us how faith may be obtained. "So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God."
So yes, everyone can have faith.

Faith to me is believing in something you are unable to see or touch, yet you know it is there in your heart.
Always have faith in your spiritual belief
I agree with having faith in yourself- if you can not have faith in yourself, then how do you expect others to have faith in you? Self confidence and faith in you is vital.
I can not agree with your statement that the rest is all fake. In the whole big picture- you have faith in your children; you hope that the way you raised them as well as the tools you have provided to them will put them on a healthy path for their adulthood. You have faith in their judgment.
Plus- would you say that stating dont ever trust without thinking 1000 times is not having faith in man or even to simplify it- words of a scorned person? We have all had harsh times or trusted someone that maybe you shouldnt but that doesnt mean the rest of the world is untrusting or not deserving of your trust.
No matter what- I have faith in my own spiritual belief as well as in people in general. Yes it can be hard sometimes but I give everyone the same chance.
