I had a total thyroidectomy in July 2002 and have been on 88 mcg. levothyroxine most of the time. The past year, my TSH has been from 8.40 - .44. My dosage has been changed twice in the past year. First it was changed to 100 mcg. and now it's at 112 mcg.
Unfortunately, since the dosage has been increased, I've experienced shaking, heart palpitations, and anxiety. I told my ENDO about my symptoms and she insists that they are not from the dosage. I'm very sensitive to meds. and have had a lot of trouble taking other meds such as antibiotics and pain meds.
My ENDO has had me alternate dosages, so it's not so hard on my system when she increased my dosage of levothyroxine. The shaking really concerns me. My hands especially. Some days are worse than others. Sometimes, I feel an all over shakiness, even in my legs.
Has anyone else experienced these symtpoms or had problems when doctor increases dosage of thyroid meds? My last TSH test was .44, so I don't understand why I'm having heart palpitations, anxiety, and trembling.
I would appreciate any help.
Thanks,

yes halley thyroxine does make you tremble and gives you palpitations / whoever has give you this false information is totally out of order - ask for a second opinion, you should not be shaking the tablets may be interacting with other medication, i am not a qualified doctor by degree but i know enough about this subject to agree with your judgement something is really wrong if you are having those symptoms.i have seen bodybuilders take thyroxine to cut up and lose fat and they all shake/ the same as ephedrine this does the same to people on it. go and see another doctor. regards lawrence

My mother was supposed to be taking 100 mcg of levothyroxine a day. She never complained about shaking but she was always anxious.
Anyway after a stay in hospital last year, when she came home, no one bothered to see if she was taking her folic acid and levothyroxine. I didn't actually know she did until the doctor asked her last month why she wasn't taking it.
I now have a mother who can't remember anything, her memory is shot and all because she didn't take the levothyroxine.
The doctor said that with a thyroid condition if the medication is not taken it causes memory loss.
It is hard to get her to take it, so I had it put in a blister pack that the carers can prompt her to take.
She will ask the same questions about 20 times a day and gets into a muddle over everything. I am hoping that with regular doses of the medication she will start to improve. The doctor said she would if she takes it daily.

sorry to hear about your mam linda, thyroxine is a drug that must be taken with care, it can be very dangerous, slimmers taking ephedrine should throw them in the dustbin, if i was in parliament i would ban them, crystal meth is made with this stuff and it kills easily. the thyroid is the major gland for everything working in conjunction with the other glands and the brain, no wonder your mam has her problems.

Thanks Lawrence, it is problem we could both do without. I didn't know crystal meth is made for thyroxine!
All this medication that causes more problems than cures. I didn't even know she was on it before she went into hospital. And it explains her anxiety, thanks.
