I'm the proud mommy of a 12 week old Chihuahua as of today. He is so very tiny and I'm scared to death that I will break him. Does anyone have any tips?

I would love to see a picture.

Just be careful about keeping your little darling warm when the temperature changes if you live in an area that does.

CONGRATS on the addition to your family.

Did you name him?

Kat we also have a blood hound who is 8 months old but he is an outside dog at the moment because of potty training issues. I've always had big dogs so I am lost. Lol. Phenix I kept him in a small blanket all night. It is pretty cool here right now. He trembles constantly. His name is Deuce. He has 2 brown patches on his eyes. Such a doll! I'm in love. I'm new here and unsure how to upload pics. I do have some though.

Hi, it is the 4th icon above the text area of the "full" selection window. Click on it and it will ask for the location url for the pictures. Some people load from their computers or a website. When you are ready and have some time, "play" with it. Took me FOREVER to load my baby's picture. Walking Granny from the Walking Site that I used to moderate loaded him for me. Now I am an expert (lol). I need to get some more pictures of him and will load when I do. Our SPOILT dog......

If you would like, I can send you my email via the PRIVATE Bellaonline message system and you can email me the pictures and I can load them for you.

I would be in love too.

Chi's....gotta love 'em!! If you live in an area that gets cool, even in winter, invest in a heated pet bed. They are rather expensive, but very nice for the little ones! You can also get him sweaters and the like. Some chi's are nervous and tremble by nature. Others do it when cold, scared or hurt. Use chairs and boxes or invest in pet steps for beds and couches. Although these little critters love to jump it is very hard on their little legs. My biggest piece of advice for new chi owners (not meant to scare) tuck away 20 a month in a "chi emergency fund". I'm serious. Chi's are prone to luxating patellas, my vet did ours surgery and it was 600, much higher if your vet doesn't do it and sends you to a specialist. Her first one went by the time she was a year old (bad breeding). Her other one went this past september when our 2 big dogs ran over her chasing a cat. And just think, if you end up not needing, there's a vacation for you!

and oh yeah, make sure you are not in an area with hawks, owls, etc. If you are I highly suggest potty pad training indoors! These little guys are too often mistaken for critters!

hi shanda, we have 2 little dogs not much bigger than your chihuahua, my sister has knitted them little coats with hoods on them in a santa claus pattern? you could always get one for your little dog. we also have a dobermann pincer [censored] and a staffy bull terrier and they all get on fine, although the little poodle [censored] likes to dominate the other 3 dogs and sometimes jumps up at the dobermann to bite her? if you saw it happen you would laugh, the dobermann is the best dog i have ever had and ive never ever seen a dog as intelligent she is half human i think but i care about them equally. i think i will see about them heated pet beds but i dont know if they make them in england, it certainly is cold over here in winter, it can be -20 at times. hope you have a nice time with your little dog. regards lawrence

Hi Sunshinellie,

I would love to see pictures, keep the little one in the heated area of your house. If it get's cool in your house at night keep the little one in your room with possibly the heater going.

Hi Skeylaw,
Maybe you could order a heated pet bed online? They are soooo nice!! We leave it plugged in 24/7. It is neat that unless they are on it, it doesn't heat up, and it only heats to a safe temperature for them. We don't get near that cold in Texas, but they are quiet funny. The three little ones dive in to the bed at night and its a race as to who can get to the heater bed first!!
