Just thought I would pass on a tip for getting rid of ear mites in your dog:

I simmered some rosemary in olive oil, drained the oil, discarded the rosemary, cooled it and put a few drops in my dogs ear then massaged it gently. The oil softened the crusties and loosened up the wax and smothered the mites. I cleaned out the ear the next morning and got a lot of junk out. I did this again after two days. The rosemary is a natural antiseptic and the dog loved the smell of it. It really works!

Yup, that would work. The oil smothers the mites and softens the crusties. Plain old mineral oil will do the job too.

I have heard that mineral oil is very good for this. I cannot find it in the stores I shop at though. I have checked the pharmacy section in three different supermarkets. Is there a secret label or something on it I don't know about?

Sometimes you can find mineral oil in the paint department, believe it or not.

Good tip - I'm no cook so I ruined the first batch because I over simmered it.

Oscar didn't have ear mites but wax was built up and I couldn't get it out. This loosened it up and a whole bunch of "stuff" came out.

You can also buy mineral oil at a drugstore.

Thanks!

hi phylis i have a remedy for you or anyone that has a pet suffering from ear mites? mix 6 drops of almond oil with 6 drops of vitamin E oil and apply enough oil to each ear making sure the oil is evenly distributed . massage the ears working the oil in and keep hold of the dog or other pet for at least 3 minutes so they dont shake their heads? repeat this procedure daily for another 5 days and the problem will cease? you can always administer these drops from time to time to keep the ears healthy, it also keeps ear wax to a minimum. regards lawrence.
