Okay, here's a primer, for those who aren't familiar with the vasectomy procedure.
After the vasectomy is done, you have to wait at least 4-6 weeks and 20 ejaculations before you get tested for any remaining sperm. You have to have two of these negative tests, a month apart, to be considered clinically sterile.
My husband just got his first test yesterday - and the verdict? There are still some random swimmers in there...after 6 STINKIN' WEEKS!
I admire their tenacity, if nothing else.
I'm just frustrated because now we have to wait another 4 WEEKS for him to get tested again - and, because the 'produce and bring in the specimen' part is pretty hard for him to do - I just thought...how nice would it be, if his body just did what was expected of it this time?!
Oh, well. :P

Wow, a vasectomy sounds like a lot of work! Hope the next test proves to be more productive than the first! Though I'm patiently waiting on my chance to get my hysterectomy or getting my tubes tied. Don't ever want a pregnancy scare.

I was looking into the Essure procedure - my Gynecologist told me that I'm a perfect candidate. You might want to check it out...it's much less invasive than a tubal ligation or a hysterectomy.
Since vasectomies have been around much longer, they're cheaper - and, yep, it came down to $$$. Plus, we got a couple hundred off the price of the vasectomy for using an in-network doctor...the Essure procedure doesn't have that luxury - as of yet.
I might save up money, and have it done in the future...but for now, a vasectomy is the right choice for us. :)
I did have a pregnancy scare - with my husband, back when he was my boyfriend. NEVER AGAIN. Since then, we've always used two forms of birth control. :)

I have said it before but I get Essure 2 1/2 years ago. I am very pleased with my choice. The procedure was quick and pretty painless. You have to get checked 3 months later to ensure the procedure worked. They fill your uterus with fluids and you cramp like a b!+ch...that was the most painful part.

Hope the next test is better...your husband must have some strong sperm...lol. I read about Essure and briefly considered it, but I read some horror stories online! I know I am sensitive to nickel, so it would be awful for me. I heard of Adiana which is silicone instead of nickel...For now hubby and I think that vasectomy will be the best way to go. It's way safer for a man to get sterilized than a woman.

Just wanted to update you all on this:
Hubby had a test on the 14th (yes, VALENTINE'S DAY, of all days), and it came back negative for sperm. Woohoo! All we need is another negative one in a couple of weeks, and we'll get the green light to do what we want, when we want, without worry! :D

Hmm if everything works out with my hubby getting his vasectomy. I could definitely think of a way to celebrate....lol. Seriously, congratulations :. I think a celebration is certainly in order.

Thats great and now I can honestly say I am jealous! Why? Because my husband refuses to get a vasectomy. I have been on the pill for 22 years and recently was told by my OB/GYN that I have to get off of it. The benefits definitly do not outweigh the risks anymore. I am over 35, have high blood pressure and liver issues as well as thinning hair.
I have my final consult tomorrow and then go over things with the surgery scheduler. I will be having a tubal ligation via cauterization. It will be laporoscopic surgery and a a one-day procedure with a 2-3 day recovery period.
I will post separately about this and again, congrats!
