Okay, so BettaMax is a sulfa drug then. that's fine, as it's obviously dosed and mixed JUST FOR BETTAS.

I would use that as a second choice, or an emergency choice, after BettaFix, which is just tea tree oil (very gentle med).

I know a lot of you have had success with the stronger meds but I would consider stuff like tetracycline to be advanced fish care. Anyway, yuo can always share your secretss for us here!

I have to say I have read a dizzying amount of information and conflicting opinions about how to treat bettas various problems. I do agree with the approach of using a more natural milder medication first. Im sure the bettafix and aquarium salt you guys suggested was what kept my tail-biter Tony from developing fin rot on his chewed up fins.

I went with the bettamax for the other fish mainly because it had vitamins in it and I was dealing with a very depressed lethargic fish that was sitting in rarely changed water. He just looked like he was waiting to die. I thought the Bettamax would be a happy medium between bettafix and stronger meds. Plus it makes the water green and that's what this fish was used to .

I was also told by this kid at a fish store that Bettamax cured everything and even though I didn't really believe him - he seemed like he was full of it and just trying to hit on me- when I read the package it seemed like a good bet. It's good to have forums like this one where people share their real life experience. It seems like many people in pet stores and fish shops will tell you anything just so they don't have to say they don't know what they're talking about.

I finally got to the point where I felt the best thing to do to take all the information I got and use my mothers intuition and make what I felt was the best choice for my fish . I like this forum because you guys keep it pretty simple. The internet is great because there is so much information but it can get overwhelming. At a certain point I felt like I was worrying my fish into being sick.

Aurora, it sounds like you are definately doing what's right by your fishies. Keep it up and follow that mother's intuition...that's really the best anyone can do...ie, what feels right...good care that's not "overcare"...bettamax seems a better compromise than just drugs, drugs, drugs.

And I agree about worrying fish sick. If soneone wants to interact with their fish all the time, I'd say give him clean water as much as possible.
