This article is about the wash performed before the prayer. The Quran tells us how to perform this ritual.

Other religions also use ablution rituals for cleansing. I used to think of it as merely a symbolic action to reinforce one's intentions. While that still holds true, now I am seeing that ablutions also have a very physical, spiritual and psychological effect.

Water, as you know, is a powerful element. It carries energy. It absorbs energy. If the water used to ablutions is pure, it will absorb negative energy from a person or thing and carry some of it away.

It also works in reverse. Water that is impure, polluted and such can infect people on all levels.

When I bathe or shower, I say prayers of gratitude for the water and the cleansing so that, in a small way, is a form of ablution, isn't it? Informal but heartfelt.

Yes Chi, I agree. In Islam there is another way of purification. That is purification without water. So, I think intention of becoming pure is the main thing. I love your thought while using natural resources. I'll do that.

I agree with Farjana that the intention of becoming pure is the main thing.

The dry ablution (tayammum)is to touch clean dry soil, then you rub your face and hands.

I love water. I love going to the steam room, I love the sea, I love rivers. I am not so keen on swimming pools as my eyes hate chlorine. I love having a long hot bath.

Yes Lori, gratitude for what we are given is as vital as the water itself.

Thanks tuculia!

Peace and hugs
