Audrey, my mother is glad I decided not to have kids. She feels that the world sucks too much and there is nothing worth offering a child. My dad is indifferent, he never cared too much for kids anway and probably would have been fine if he never had any himself. The boyfriends parents though, I am dreading the day the find out that I have been sterilized. His parents are pretty openminded but I don't know how they will feel about no grandkids from us.

Good for you for having such a great family who accepts the decisions you make for your life.

Audrey, I laughed out loud at your charades with the dog comment !
My mum has just told me that the couple next door to them are expecting their second child...
She's a chiropodist and looks after my mums feet, so is on very friendly terms.
Their little boy, who's three, is a cutie ( apparently, according to mum ) and when he sees my dad in the garden, opens his arms and shouts dordie, dordie ( my dad's name is Gordon )

I know my mum has never made me feel bad about the grandchild thing, but it's at certain times I do feel for them.
One of the comments I've just read about a dad not being interested in them when they were small ? well that was my dad. He loved us, I'm sure, but not at all interested.

I also find it difficult to reply to these comments in general.
I now just change the subject, as I have found nothing can counter conversations about 'what little Johny did.' without it sounding a bit superior, or worse still, like I'm jealous.

As for my Aunt, my mum has started avoiding her. She felt her comment was just plain nasty. It's my aunt's loss as far as I'm concerned.
She has now lost my mum - who is a really nice person - as a friend.

@Gaynor: My dog loves charades. I found that it's best to avoid board games, as the pieces are always in danger of getting swiped across the room by a wagging tail - especially with the strobe light and fog machine going. I'd never find them again. HAHAHAHAHA!!! I think I'm having way too much fun with this. :D @Kat - yep, I'm pretty lucky. I didn't realize how nasty people can be until I met some other CF people, both online and IRL and heard their awful, awful stories. I thank my lucky stars...and anxiously wait until my mother-in-law finds out that hubby had a vasectomy. I'm sure there will be ugly comments forthcoming. She's passive-aggressive, but everyone has a point where their sanity wears thin. I have a sickening feeling that it may be her weak spot. :P
