Italian special dessert pie or cake that my friend calls Lapiciagana that is the sound that I get and have spelled it as I hear it. His grandmother used to make it on special occasions and it had a lot of eggs, was time consuming to make and was made around Easter or for special occasions. I am thinking the Italian Easter pie fits but he doesn't remember citron in it. Does anyone know of any dessert with the Italian name that is similar?

Your right, it sounds as if it's a variation of Easter pie. I would need more specific information to track down the recipe.

I think this might be pizza chiena - literally means "full pie" - traditionally made at Easter with ricotta, salami, basket cheese, prosciutto, parsley and lots of beaten eggs, baked in a crust. It is symbolic for celebrating the end of Lent. It is also known as pizza rustica!

I make a sweet pie for Easter with ricotta - it's called Pizza Dolce. This is made with ricotta, eggs, chocolate pieces, Italian liquor and I cut up some cherries into small pieces. This is baked in the oven in a 9 x 12 pan.

I have one also that I make at Easter time and it is called a casatta. Calls for ricotta, dozen eggs, grated chocolate, chopped cherries (marachino)grated lemon and orange zest and if you want can add rum. Some people do add citron but I don't like it so leave it out. (also have a very very old recipe passed down by my M-I-L hers called for cooked barley, rosewater, heavy cream besides...was delicious but very time consuming) All the above ingredients are poured into a pasta frolla (crust) and baked.
