Hello. I am new to BellaOnline and this forum. I have a great concern on my heart with which I seek guidance. My d-in-law and I are new in our relationship, and I care for her enough that I would like to be her good friend and mentor. She is a dear woman who experiences a lot of pain (physical, emotional and spiritual) which I believe is because she is not getting any comfort or support from her chosen faith, Paganism. I wish no disrespect to Pagans, and often find I am in agreement with them on many fundamental values. But she is in despair so often, and is easily wounded by the actions and words of others. See #2 to follow.

She is raising our grandchildren without any reference to Christianity which made Christmas somewhat awkward. My heart breaks for her, she is in such despair and overwhelmed by what she sees as chaos and confusion surrounding her life. I would like to offer her the comfort I find in my faith, but I sense this is touchy to her, born to a Christian woman but choosing a very different path. Do I wait for her to ask for my advice, or is there a way I can bring it up without offending or seeming disrespectful?

You are in a difficult position but it can also be a very important position. You can play an important role in her life and in your grandchildren's lives.

Pray for her and your grandchildren everyday. Pray for yourself that you will be the light that God says we are.
Pray for the opportunity to talk to her and pray that God will give you the words. He answers prayer. I have prayed for opportunities and have been surprised by the sometimes immediate response.

Before speaking, remember that you love her and that God loves her. Then expect Him to give you the words.

P.S. I'm praying for you.

Another thought.
After you talk to her, it is up to the Holy Spirit as to whether she responds. It may take time. Your job is to just keep living your Christian life. I think sometimes we back away from it because we are afraid of offending someone. You have a right to your belief and have a right to talk about it in a non-confrontational way. The Christian walk is joyful - people can't help but see that and want the same kind of happiness.

Thank you for your prayers and your good advice. I'm the sort that does need to be reminded that I must wait for the Holy Spirit to take action. :} Waiting is very difficult for me but I see the wisdom of your words and when the time is right, God will open up the topic between us. Thanks again.
