BellaOnline Forums Hobbies and Crafts Birding What kind of raptor did I see today???

I know a little about birds, enough to know that this was a raptor. There were 2 but I only caught a glimpse of one. The second did something totally unknown in birding -- flew right over me while I had the binoculars trained on it!!

However it didn't last long and I couldn't study enough of the bird to get many details. The chest/stomach area was very pale except for a deep U-shape on it's chest. The U-shape was a dark color but I'm not sure if it was banded or not.

I gotta know what this was!!!

I live in the southwestern area of North Dakota, a semi-arid place, where the temperature has been 95 F or above for at least a week.....

Has it come back again? Hopefully if you saw it once, it is hanging out in your area and you'll get a better glimpse of it, maybe even a photo!
