Im not a mind-reader but Im guessing that few of you will have drunk Carmnre (car-men-air-rare), and those that have bought it recently and the wine came from Chile. Let me explain: Carmnre wine has only been available for the past decade and virtually all of it is grown in Chile. Yet this isnt some new grape variety, it has been around for ever and neither is it indigenous to South America.

And heres a twist: if you were enjoying Chilean Merlot in the 1980s and 90s then there is a good chance what was in the bottle was really Carmnre. It is an ancient variety that was mistaken for Merlot and forgotten.

Read my new articleWhat is Carmenere Wine?

Merlot is my favorite wine. I love it so much, I tell my husband that God created it just for me. I have never heard of Carmnre wine, but will definitely try it if I run across it. Since I live in one of the few remaining dry counties, there is a very slight chance of that.

Which Carmemere did you get?

In my article it says the variety is mostly grown in Chile and I have not come across a French varietal Carmenere so I'm interested in what you found.
