Jilly, I was listening to someone talk about web design etc. and they suggested using Wordpress. If you have discussed that on this site, where would I find your article? What do you tink about that?

I LOVE Wordpress. I've changed over at least four of my sites to it. To clarify I'm using the downloaded platform and not the site. So many helpful plugins and free themes and so many possibilities for professional looking designs.

I need a lesson on this - When I go to the Wordpress site being a bit green, I didn't understand what I need to do.

Is the downloaded platform like using Front Page - create and then upload rather than create on the site?

How does it differ from Front Page?

Please give me the addy for your websites. Thanks so much.

Front page is computer software. I actually started with Front Page when I first started making websites. Then I progressed to Dreamweaver. Now I'm in love with Wordpress which is web software (you work with it on the web and not your computer).

I have my own domain and domain name(s) so I uploaded Wordpress to my server and it gives me a dashboard to work with. I use HostPapa which has a really easy and headache free way to upload Wordpress especially when compared to following how the Wordpress site instructs: wordpress.org

* My main site: http://www.m-e-wood.com
* My writer's site: http://www.book-in-a-week.com
* And my shopping site is linked in my signature line below under Five Favorite Things.

My first Wordpress site was set up by a small business and at the time it cost me $120 (they now charge $600 otherwise I'd recommend them). And I have since learned to do it myself.

The other Wordpress option is having it hosted at wordpress, kind of like the way Blogger does it. I have never used this method: wordpress.com

Hope this helps.

Ads would be a problem - Do you have ads because your hosting site is free?

Thanks for all the information. I know I need to switch from Front Page eventually and am trying to figure out what path I should follow.

Hey Moe, do you know how to remove dates from wordpress web sites? I haven't been able to figure that out - and I want my content to look fresh all the time, kwim?

Thanks!

Angie -- My hosting site isn't free. The ads are ads I put on. If you go with a free site there is the potential for ads and you have no control over them.

Deanna -- Which dates are you talking about? The individual posts? Here is a plugin that removes dates. I have not used it myself.

Wordpress.com is free, but you are very limited to what you can do. You can't use the many plugins and you can't add Google ads to your blog. ( A good place for a newbie to start)

WordPress.org is downloadable software that you download and install on your own site. You pay for hosting. Hosting runs about 2.99 a month from a webhost like visionthishosting.com

I've decided it is not what I want to use. Thanks everyone for your input and explanations.

Hi Angie, that's cool. There are tons of options out there, but I just wanted to throw in with the pro-WP crowd. I really love the flexibility of WP. Whatever I think of that I want to do, someone has already thought of it, and there are usually dozens of plug-ins to choose from that will give me the functionality I want. To me, that is a dream come true in the software world.
