Hello everyone,

The latest article on the Ergonomics site at BellaOnline is about laptops and some of the issues about using them. It includes some tips and some points to remember as you open that shiny (or not) laptop case. I hope you find it interesting and useful.

Hi Virginia, I am presently working for an Ergonomics Professor at a local university. I did not realize that they had this field. Are you in this field? It is so important to learn about ergonomics to avoid unnecessary damage to your body.

Hello Hope,
Yes, my field is Ergonomics. I came to the field through Occupational Therapy. After getting a lot of experience in how the body works, what can go wrong and why, and treatment techniques, I decided to study a bit more and went to San Jose State University to get a Masters in Human Factors - Ergonomics.

Human Factors programs vary thoughout the nation. Many focus on perception, some on instrument control, some on research, some on the psychology of people and work, and some on the physical aspects of work. San Jose State actually give a choice of several different focuses. This give a very wide base of knowledge to use in approaching problems. Oops- out of room.

fishThe professor I work for Dr. Pamela McCauley Bush at the University of Central Florida is an expert in this field and has written many articles on the subject. She is teaching an Ergonomics class which is whining down in a few weekss. It is for undergraduates and graduate studies.

An interesting subject indeed and I try to sit in on her class every Wednesday when I can.

One of the things i like about Ergonomics is that the knowledge is applicable in many fields. You can use most of the information anywhere you end up.

And as I age, I am TRYING (note/lol) to lift stuff the right way as the back does not like it when I don't bend my knees.
