I think others perceptions about mental disabilities can be more stigmatizing than those that we can all see. I know that when I disclose the fact that I hate a disability I must be ready for a whole range of different reactions based on the limited knowledge people have on mental illness and how what little they know will effect how they react to me. Most of the time I sensor who to tell and who to not tell which can make one feel guilty like one (myself) is hiding something. I am greatful however for modern medications and the public becoming more excepting and aware of mental illness. If I had a dollar for every time someone mentions the Russell Crowe movie, ' A Beautiful Mind,' after I say something about my affliction I wold be a millionaire!
During sex I'm usually paranoid about whether my hearing aids will start ringing and ruin the moment. And just thinking about whether it will happen kind of ruins the moment, too. But I still enjoy the sex, regardless of my anxiety.
