You know when my daughter lived with me, i'd go to the florist shop and get 2 dozen carnations and on Veteran's day we'd go to the cemetary and I'd give her 5 or 6 at a time and show her how to place one on the tombstone of someone that had a flag next to it.
She was younger, I want to say 6 but she'd actually hug the tombstone and grab my hand and try to say the names of the people who served.
It was very pretty, we'd always go about dusk as the sun was setting but not cryptically or anything in the evening. The cemetary back then was just down the road from us, so it wasn't an all day affair but still nice in a way, that people could be honored, remembered, that someone still cares
