They are making pretty much the entire episode now the "fight for the yellow line people" which I don't enjoy as much as seeing the growth of individual players. Maybe they felt watchers only cared about the exciting end where we were having people be eliminated. For me that's not why I watch it.

Also, I don't like "random" tasks like "dig in sand for a hoop". To me that's not about an individual's skill. At least if people are running for a flag, you control your own destiny. You run as fast as you can. If you're digging randomly for a hoop who knows if you'll get it? You could be the best digger and still someone else gets the hoop.

I liked the sand challenge since it was not strength based. The producers throw these in so it's not all about the most athletically-inclined winning immunity.

Also it was neato. It looked exhausting but fun to dig like a dog. I was working on my mulching the next day and I was thinking how much like digging in the sand must have been. It made me understand how tiring that might have been for them.

They always have a lot of water based challenges - and with what happened to Maria last season they might be nervous about a replay of that until they felt sure that all the people who said they were swimmers actually ARE. smile

So they might be picking non water ones...and it can't all be strength or quickness based ones that favor the more athletic people...plus they don't want to repeat a challenge they've done in the ten seasons they've had. I think this was a very fair choice.

Re the yellow line. I still don't like it. I said why in the ep 1 and 2 threads but honestly it's not working for me.

I can't believe how people are being this season already. I don't even have a favorite and I always do by now. Everyone seems very game oriented which i detest. I might like Ada but i can't know that since she never gets a chance to talk. I might like Sophie, Jessica, Elizabeth, Lisa and Burgundy, but i don't know who they are yet. I am willing to let the uncomfortable argument between Burgundy and Jessica pass for now. Maybe they were just stressed and tired.

As far as i can see all the men are acting like sexist, game playing pigs. Except the poor dude who lost his mom, but i am already tired of hearing about how his mom is looking down on him and helping, and that's why he is doing so well. Abby, who lost her *entire* family, didn't talk about it every week. The producers did but she didn't.

Okay, Aaron seems like a decent bloke. But like Ada, he doesn't talk. So i really have no idea.

I agree...I can't wait for the return of the redline. I'm not enjoying the show as much this year, and it's likely because of the gamesmanship. This is an unfortunate by-product of these reality tv shows because contestants have had several seasons to see how the game is played and to figure out how to act. These "reality" shows aren't very real anymore.

On one hand you could say the show can be aware of the manipulation tactics and find ways to work around them - but on the other hand maybe the show *likes* the gamemanship and the backstabbing and so on and feels it makes for good TV. For me, that's the kind of stuff I hate watching.

It's like whoever that annoying red lady - was it Melissa? - from the previous season who was being so nasty. I was literally going to stop watching the show if I had to watch her any more. It just wasn't worth it to me. She got kicked off. Then the show brought her back again! I think those types of nasty scenes draw in some types of viewers, and they drive away me. Maybe there are less people like me out there and more people who like the fighting?

I want to see people working out, learning to eat right, getting their lives in order and becoming happy. And the people on the show forums prefer that also, and not the game play.

Unfortunately the internet posters are in the minority. Most people like the backstabby stuff. I just wish it was not on my show. I could do without the Vickis and Melissas.

Vicki was by FAR the worst mean girl they've had. That was season seven i think. Melissa was deluded and selfish, but she didn't hold a candle to Machiavellian Vicki.

I miss Tara. I want more people like her on the show. Like Daris, she dug in and found her inner athlete. Unlike Daris, she made it to the finals without EVER once being below the yellow line. And she also has a record for the most challenges won by anyone in a season. I think she won nine challenges and it would have been ten if not for "Cookie Gate." (that was the year Helen won. Season six?)

Ahh, memory lane...

It is a shame that they head in the direction of the non-vocal sniping-loving majority and not in the direction of the vocal loyal minority who loves encouraging shows. You would think there are plenty of shows out there for people who like backstabbing kind of behavior. There need to be at least a few out there for people who like happy encouraging shows.

But then again I suppose it's hard for a TV company to say to its employees "you all need to take a cut in salaries because we are aiming towards happy people right now." Or even worse - "we have to fire a bunch of you, because we want to make small-audience TV shows."

I suppose in a way it's disappointing that there aren't more happy-show-watching people naturally.

it's why i refuse to watch Survivor. I don't like the whole idea of it - people in the wilderness should be working together. It offends me in a real way - as an Outward Bound instructor, I taught wilderness skills that were based on compassion, teamwork and excellence. So I won't touch Survivor.

I also won't watch those bachelor or apprentice shows. Do i really want to see people behaving badly? Life has enough of that without help.

But I am a person who doesn't like competitive games at all. I wish more games were cooperation-based.
