Hi Holli, Welcome! Looking forward to your articles. I lost my little boy when he was 12 from a terminal genetic disorder. And now, my adult daughter was diagnosed with the same but milder form. Child loss is something from which you never fully recover. You just learn how to keep moving along with this pain in your heart.

The healing process is a very long one, but together we can make it. You really believe that there hasn't been any progress and you don't think there ever will be. But believe me when I tell you that one day you will look backwards and come to know that you have taken steps forward. The other day I surprised myself when I walked outside and felt the warmth of the sun, saw the spring flowers and said "what a beautiful day!". I was shocked, then realized I had made progress.

If progress means being able to see beauty and joy, then I have made progress. I have had to learn to embrace the goodness of the moment because the past, present and future hold pain, loss and suffering. The only escape was to learn to grasp the joy of this very moment.
But not to sound ungrateful but I don't think my joy will be complete until I'm reunited with my little boy.
And I learned that my daughter could be leaving (passing) soon, too. I'm having a hard time finding a reason to stay behind.

Lori, stay strong, dear friend. You have a reason to be here. You also have friends to support you.
My mother lost her firstborn in 2007. Brother died at the age of 68. He left us on our Mother's birthday when she was 85. It was so very hard for her and we almost lost her, too. With much love and support and understanding, she has survived. She still cries at times and we help her through the bad times. What is so wonderful and hopeful is that she can still laugh and enjoy life. The deep sense of loss will never leave her, it is just in a quieter place.
Blessings, love, and hugs to all who have experienced or may experience the loss of a child.
