I'd have to say Madonna.
She really had a big affect on the culture of both the 80s and the 90s.
And I really admire that she grows too... she didn't remain the vampy tart of her first couple of CDs, but grew into a woman with a strong message.

She is one of these artists yes but I do not think she is number one for this. I'm not sure who it is but it could be Elvis Presley, if it's not him then he for sure is at least in the top five and Madonna too is probably in the top five.
