Is Stonehenge still considered sacred? Are there still sacred ceremonies or rituals conducted there?

There is a group of druids that are allowed to perform rituals there. I believe it is now roped off to prevent any more erosion of the area.

That is a good idea to keep tourists out. I sure would like to visit. Just to stand in the center must be a very amazing experience. I am glad to know that Druids are allowed within.

"The Henge" is still a sacred symbol for many Pagans. Managed by British Heritage you can arrange to walk amongst the stones through them or even do ceremonies if you wish provided you don't do anything that damages them or leaves traces. My wife and I attended a 'crossing of the bridge' memorial service for Dylan Ap Thun the only Druid to observe all the Solstices and Equinoxes at Stonehenge when the police used to surround it at these times of year. He was able to do this because, living in Portsmouth(UK,)he frequented the Pagan shop "Broomsticks" based in a landmark building and was trained in infiltration by the local Ninja and ex Special Forces people who were also Pagans and hung out there. The ceremony was held within the stones and I think you can still see a video of it if you go to the Insular Order of Druids site and scroll down through the history section until you come to the bit about his death. So yes, it's still sacred and there is a Druid Order that looks after it from that angle and do rituals.

I am very glad to hear that it is still sacred and being cared for, Ian. Thanks for the information.
I have always had a great passion for stories about Merdynn (Merlin) and an affinity for the Druids.

On a slightly different note, Stonehenge was also recently used for the latest series of Dr Who...
Stonehenge was relatively close to where I grew up, so I was lucky enough to visit it before it was fenced off.
You may also find Avebury an interesting site - this is another stone circle in Wiltshire and it is an area rich in ancient monuments.

Avebury is where all the serious Pagans/Occultists/ Ritual Mages go at solstices and equinoxes. Not only to avoid the crush at the Henge - but it also has a pub!

If I ever get overseas, I would like to explore my English/Irish/Scottish roots. A tour of the BBC would be great - but I would love to spend a while just looking at Stonehenge and feeling the vibrations that must come from it.

I think the Henge closes for the winter, although I don't know for how long. Th best time would be as soon it re-opens in the spring before all the tourists inadverteantly drain off the charge.
