How much is your monthly gym membership costing you and how much did you pay to join?

I'm curious to know how much rates have gone up since I worked and trained in a gym.

Well we have a family membership to the YMCA that is on a sliding scale. My husband is disabled and on SSI. We only pay $56 a month.

Mine is at ATC Fitness, a 24 hour gym with just cardio & strength areas. No pool, no childcare, no classes. But, it's got what I need and it's just $15 a month.

The base price at our gym is $845 for the two of us. Because I'm a Chamber member, I got it at $635. Then our health insurance company refunded us $200 each for the year. So that makes it only $235 for both of us the year, for both of us, including all spin classes, yoga classes, yoqua classes, and so on. It has saunas too smile

Wow those are some pretty good deals on gym memberships. Cheapest one I've had was $29/mo all classes, pool, racquetball and babysitting too. The most expensive I had was $50ish/mo for couple with some classes, basketball court, no pool and babysitting.

YMCA has always been so outrageous with their prices. I thought they were supposed to be affordable.

The YMCA is pretty affordable if you ask about deals or paying on a sliding scale. We had to show our tax return and something saying my husband is disabled to get a family thing $56

Free to join - family of 4 for $55.00 a month. It's a rec center so they've got tons of classes, fitness gym, pool, hot tub, racquetball court, open gym to play basketball, baby sitting (certain hours, not that I have any kids that need it).

The classes include - spinning, boot camp, core fitness, zumba, and z-kick, fitness boxing, stretching, the afro-brazilian, power pump...just a ton of classes - including water areobics.

I think that's a pretty good price. Considering one visit - is $10.00 per person.

lisa, the original price is pretty outrageous but the deal you got when all is said and done is just fine. That's what it should cost. smile

What kind of insane awesome health insurance does that, BTW?

Wow Diane, that is an awesome deal. I think most gyms (YMCA being the exception here) are offering deals. I read on one of the fitness industry sites that gym members were canceling in droves summer of 2009 so I guess they had to do something or continue to lose money.

I think I wrote about how last fall was the best time to get a health club membership because of this. My brother joined Gold's where they normally charge $200 to join plus $400/yr. They waived his sign up fees and took 10% off or something like that.

I sold memberships for a short while so I know that isn't a big deal for them to cut prices like that. YMCA needs to keep up with everybody. They even over charge for summer camps for kids and aftercare for kids. What is their deal?

We attended a YMCA in New York and for the family plan it was $36 a month. When we came back to VA, I wanted to join because it was such a great price - well down here it was $99 at the gym closest to the house - crazy!!!

Even in NY, different YMCA's in the same County had different costs for the same plan depending on where it was located.
