Does anyone know what the policy is about moving your troop to a different GS Council? We are located on the edge of one Council, and our city is under the jurisdiction of that Council, but we would rather be a part of the neighboring Council. Can you do that?? If you did, would you be able to take your troop funds with you?

Generally, what council you are in depends on where your meeting place is, and where the members of your Troop live.

If the leaders, and girls, all live in your city, and the Troop meets in your city, you are pretty much stuck with the council you are in.

I would recommend talking to the other council first to see if, come October, the girls and adults could all register there.

If allowed to join the other council, you would have to have a brand new Troop set up, in that council, with a new Troop number.

As to bringing Troop funds with you to another council, I would guess no, that would not be possible. Your Troop is "owned" by your council. Your council's name is on all paperwork, including the checking accounts. This is why you are required to file a financial statement with your council every year.

Why do you want to change councils?

I live on the boundary of 2 councils, in fact it is also the boundary of 2 states. This ques has come up in my family--my youngest, when a Daisy, was in a troop at her nursery school in the neighboring state. Her older sisters were Cadette & Sr in the state in which we live. I was a GS leader in 2 states & councils at the same time!

Both councils knew all about it & neither cared. I took my training to be a Daisy leader in the neighboring council/state, because that is where I wd be leading the D troop.

I also have been told that if an older girl had good friends in the next state whose troop she wanted to join, fine. The issue becomes when she wants to do things like her higher level awards --- if she is not spending "face time" with people from that council, or volunteering to work at council events, etc, she is at a disadvantage.

Your situation soudns more like dispute is going on, than a geography thing with friends or schools. Why do you want to switch?
