Weight Loss Basics
When it comes to weight loss, it comes down to one simple word - Calories. What is a calorie? A calorie is a metric unit of ENERGY. We put on weight when we consume more calories than our body can burn, and we lose weight when our body burns more calories than we consume in any given day.
Once you understand this formula, you're ready to make a plan and set goals for losing weight. Some people have the resolve to do it on their own, but most people may need help and support from family and friends, or even professional weight loss centers. How ever you decide to go about your plan, always remember that there may be situations where your resolve will be tested. Anticipate AHEAD OF TIME how you plan to handle these situations so you are prepared.
If you have a large amount of weight to lose, you should discuss your plan and your goals with your doctor before proceeding. You should also discuss the risks and benefits in reaching your goals.
The bottom line is, no matter what your situation is, and no matter how much weight you plan to lose safely, it's all about the commitment that you make, and what you are willing to give up in order to achieve your goals.
Weight Loss Plans & Diet Plans
With so many diet options available, how do you know which weight loss plan suits your needs and lifestyle? Ask yourself these questions before choosing any diet plan:
1. Does it include foods from all the major food groups - lean proteins, fruits, vegetables, grains and nuts?
2. Does it fit your lifestyle and budget?
3. Does it include foods you can easily find in your local grocery store?
4. Does it include foods you would enjoy eating on a daily basis?
5. Does your weight loss plan also include regular exercise?
If you answer yes to ALL of these questions, then this would be a good diet plan to consider. However, no matter which diet plan you decide to select, remember that one of the biggest key factors that will help you lose weight is having good control over the size of your portions.
