What would /should one say when someone says "I'm praying for you" or "god bless you" ....for example if you're sick? Obviously, they don't realize the person is a full blooded atheist.

It really means NOTHING to me and rather irks me, and I feel like giving a response.....something like "if I thought that would help, I'd be praying 24/7". Perhaps, one should just say "thank-you" but that isn't appropriate when you don't believe in a deity.

You can appreciate the kind intentions and thank them for that. Good will, no matter how directed, is always welcome.

Ya, Claybird, I know it's good intentions.....but it is really phoney for me to say 'thank-you'. I think I should say 'just wish me luck' ....Yep, that sounds like me.
