I generally do well with ergonomics at my regular computer. I have the height set up well and all of that. But when I go to my laptop, I am scrunched up on my futon and hunched over.

I really need to put more effort into a more healthy laptop setup, but is it even possible? The whole reason I use the laptop is to be near Bob in the living room, which means we're on the couch together.

laptops are the pits - essential, but the pits. Not only that, but the netbooks are even smaller - that means cramped fingers trying to find the keys, hunching over the laptop trying to type; you're right, ergonomically, they are not healthy.

I cannot watch JUST TV without also having my laptop sitting on my lap while I'm on the couch. If the TV is on, then my laptop is also on my lap. I have a very tiny MacBook so it sits lightly and conveniently on the tip of my knees. I do have a PC set up in the back room with a printer attached and all so that's where I do real nitty gritty work, but love having my laptop so I can make boring TV less boring and spend time around my husband, who in fact also has his laptop on a plastic pivotal stand sitting in front of him.

I have a laptop as the center of my universe but I have an additional keyboard and monitor to go along with it. But when I'm out and needing the netbook or laptop, it's still not a very satisfying experience except for the end result in getting the work done. smile

Now that I'm using my laptop more, I can't get comfortable. I have it on a lapdesk on my lap when I'm sitting on the bed. Then I set it off to the side and lean on an elbow. Then I put it on the bed and kneel on the floor. I put it on the bedside table and sit on an exercise ball. There just isn't a comfortable position unless I'm at a desk - defeating the whole purpose of my getting a laptop...lol...

Hmmm. Scrunched up on your futon? Is it in bed or couch mode? There are several small laptop tables that may assist you, but first you need to get your head and arms into a position that allows you to work freely.

Rounded shoulders not only interfere with motion, they interfere with breathing, compressing your chest. So....Can you get more upright? Would a pillow help? I'm thinking of a wedge set up so that the flat end sits on the bed and the wedge part angles towards the head of the the bed, giving you a fairly firm surface for the length of your back at approximately 30 degrees. I have seen such wedges at some Walgreens.
