Hi everyone, I'm traveling to Egypt soon, and I look forward to meeting locals there. I'm not overly familiar with middle eastern culture and don't want to insult anyone without meaning to, so if you have some suggestions as to what is appropriate or not appropriate, I'd be grateful!

Hi Dear,

You'll see foreigners wearing all manner of clothing. However, it is recommended you wear clothing which the locals will consider more modest - you'll be glad you did. You may want to wait for an Egyptian man to extend his hand before you put yours out. Your cultural experience will depend upon where you go and if you have a man traveling with you. You're welcome to post more questions!

Have you gone yet? If you are going to mostly touristy areas, just be sure you are never by yourself and you will be fine. If you are venturing out, again, don't be alone but observe the following: don't show anyone the bottom of your shoes (as while crossing legs, etc.), don't offer to shake the hand of a man, don't look men in the eyes you are not talking with, dress as if you are allergic to sun and fresh air. My suggestion: go to Lebanon instead. :-)
