Last week I came home to find my neighborhood full of police cars, K9 and helicopters, I could not even get into my own garage without prove of residence. This is the official police report... F...Police District - A 26-year-old man was apprehended yesterday after he reportedly sexually assaulted a teenager left home alone. Police were called to a home on to First Lane at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, August 16. They determined a 14-year-old girl was home alone when she answered a knock at her front door. She was met by a man selling cleaning products. He entered the house and asked to use the bathroom. Upon exiting the bathroom, he allegedly sexually assaulted her. Numerous patrol officers, detectives, K9 teams and the helicopter saturated the area. Residents in the community provided police detailed information on a group of solicitors in the neighborhood selling carpet cleaning products. Around 10 p.m. a vehicle fitting the descriptions given by residents was stopped in the area. Officers identified one the nine occupants as the suspect. Tommy Lee Harmon of Greensboro, North Carolina, was charged with one count of taking indecent liberties with a minor. The investigation is ongoing and further charges are possible. Harmon was part of a group of solicitors with Pumppers Trust Mrs. Clean Pump-it-Off Company, based out of South Carolina. Well I was able to finally see and talk to the MOM (adopted mother) the other day, I inquire as how they are doing and how is her daughter (the 14 years old is autistic and has some ADD or some sort of disability, I understand that her birth mom was into alcohol and drugs while pregnant and affected the baby). The mom explained that the guy actually went to the house when her son and daughter were there (the son is 16 or 17) and the guy pretended to show some cleaning product and when he saw the son left. Then the son went to get some food and the guy saw the car leave and came back, bully himself into the house, used the bathroom and exposed and touch himself in front of her and tried to get her face on his parts... but she ran away, she was already into counseling for her other problems, so her therapist sent her straight to a CSA therapist and she says that things are as good as they could under the circumstances. Needless to say this inside left us all upset, we are an small community with about 80 houses but thank godness we have neighbors whom did not like what they saw and called the police. But what really floored me on the conversation was what the MOM told me: "You know the first thing that came to my mind was, Thank God it was not your daughter, this would have been 3 for 3 and that is really not acceptable. I thought that M was joking to begin with since it runs with her personality the wanting attention, then I realized that it was something behind the story and the my thoughts went to you". She really left me speechless, that was not what I expect it, not that I am not greatful, and it realy made me realize how much my daughter is loved by some many, when my neighbor's thoughts were first for my daughter than for hers. Please be careful, this type of behavior from strangers is getting worse everyday. We need to talk to our kids more, and us adults need to be careful when opening the door. This soliciting door-to-door thing is getting worse every time.

Soccermom,

Thank you for telling us this cautionary tale. I'm so glad that man was caught. I'm glad the girl is already in counseling. Hopefully, that means she will get help right away.

I agree we need to be more careful when answering the door. I don't always follow this advice. I tell myself I'm being paranoid, but there's nothing wrong with being cautious.
