What a great article, Susan, with some really great ideas!

The title of this thread caught my attention, however, as there was a recent horse-hoarding seizure in my area. Due to the laws here, the owner got off on all animal abuse and neglect charges as he "did not know horses needed to eat and drink".

Anyways, I'm glad the title caught my attention; it's good to know there are great people out htere helping people- and horses!- through the rough patches of life.

Thanks Melissa,

Despite the reasons for the nelglect animals are often returned to their previous situation due to no other options for the rescued. (This is not the case when blatantly active cruelty has occurred - thankfully). Many of those that were caught neglecting their animals do manage to be better caretakers and they are also watched closely for at least a while after.
