This article was inspired by one of our conversations on the "Conversation Thread" - when we were talking about "not feeling spiritual".

Because I have to admit, with all the tragedy that has been going on around here, I have not felt spiritual at all.

I hope this article is helpful to some, it was very helpful to me just by writing it!

Feeling Spiritual

Hi Michelle,

Thanks for an honest article. Somedays are simply challenging...
I also sometimes feel like an oxymoron to write... especially about the topics that I know I can do better on. However, I think feeling spiritual is to remember our true essence, and to accept the part of us that needs acceptance and nurturing. We are still human after all.

I'm bumping this topic back up to the top.

I don't know what it is, but once again I'm fighting to get in that "Spiritual mode".

What do some of you do when you are not feeling spiritual?

I get up very early, before the sun, and fix my coffee or tea. I sit out on my patio and listen to the quiet while I sip coffee and wait for the sun to come up. Peaceful thoughts start creeping into my mind as I just let my whole body and mind relax. To me it is a feeling of being renewed to face a new day, a new chance to further traverse my path in life. I cannot help to feel anything but spiritual as I listen to the little creatures, the birds, the breeze, the rustle of trees, all Nature waking up. I give a prayer of thanks and ask for guidance for the day ahead of me. It is very refreshing. That is my time when I am totally alone with God and Nature.

Maybe that is why I'm having such a difficult time.

It is reaching the high 90s up to 100 here in Georgia. The last thing I want to do is go outside. So I'm missing that nature connection.

Maybe you can bring Nature inside. A CD of birds with spring rain (not words, just the soft quiet sounds of spring). Maybe a little table fountain would be very calming.

Speaking of feeling spiritual -- my whole family is feeling very spiritual after the deaths of two beloved friends early this month. These friends were like family. We have all been praying and supporting each so much that the spiritual essence of our faith and love is very strong right now.

I have got to share something with you, Michelle. A good friend and I were discussing spirituality when her husband walked in and said, "You women talking about that spirit stuff again?"

After he passed on through the room, she said, "Now just how the h... am I supposed to feel spiritual with that kind of attitude around me?"

We went for a walk and when we got back she felt better. Her husband and her are very close and have a great relationship. He is spiritual in his own way, just not very sensitive to other's feelings.
