"We The People".... Do our votes, and our will no longer matter?

The new health care bill was not wanted by the majority of the people. I heard on news reports that Pelosi said "it does not matter what the people want, we know what's best" -- then I heard she said "we will not know what is in the bill till we pass it". What?!!! Did she actually say that?

I was numbed by those two statements and now I am numbed by the fact that judges can and do overturn the will of the people who legally voted for something.

Seven million people voted no (in California) for "same sex marriage" and the issue passed. Yet a judge overturned that vote and tossed out the ban, along with the will of the people. I want to make it clear that I am not making a judgment either way on "same sex marriage". My point is: if the people vote for something why is it allowed to be overturned by one person? It seems as if Judge Walker was making a political statement rather than being concerned about the will of the people.

Arizona passed a law to protect their citizens and a judge overturned that law and tossed out the most critical parts. Arizona has now been denied the right to protect their own citizens. The Federal Government failed to protect our Arizona citizens, the Arizona Governor passed a law (to enforce the federal law) to protect the citizens and one person, a judge, says no you cannot do that!

The attitude of judges and the current administration has become "we don't care what the people want and we don't care how they voted, we will do what we want".

What is happening in our country?!!! It seems our votes and concerns and 'will' no longer matter. "We The People" is no longer important. Is the Constitution now just a piece of paper that this current administration and judges are crumbling up and tossing out? Are we living in what will become a dictatorship country? Things are spinning out of control!

The writers of the Constitution knew that there would be times that what was popular with the major of the people and what was 'right' would not always be the same. They made sure in many areas that a popular vote would not be able to change the constitution. The process is long and difficult.

Both of the cases you mentioned were votes to take away the rights of people. This can not happen with popular vote.

The other issue is that individual States can not take away protections that are given by the United States of America. (ie If the United States of America says you are a citizen, Minnesota can't say you're not.)

I'm not sure what is spinning out of control, but there is not doubt something is. I've been wondering lately if we have to live through the 60's again. I'm not ready for that.

A year ago, I would have thought this was outlandish...but, I have to admit that it is appearing to be true. Phyllis, this 10 minute video totally answers your question:

The video was made in June of 2007 and clearly speaks to the Bush/Cheney tendency toward creating a world of their own making regardless of what anyone else wanted or warned them against - including their own party a great deal of the time.

Government needs to be a visible process and the people need to make their voices heard through voting and contacting their representatives - stomp your feet and shout from the rooftops - if we give up and allow apathy to take hold then a deceptive government, no matter who is in charge, will take over - absolute power corupts absolutely.

Susan, sadly the New World Order has been around since the beginning of America. All presidents have played a role in it, including Obama. That's why illegal aliens are being allowed to pour in, and get all the bennies they want. Our boarders are in the process of being removed! We have lost our standing as citizens of this country. I'm in mourning for a country lost. frown

Shannon, so true. Unfortunate, and so true. The only way to bring our country back is to wake people up to the truth, and then the people need to hold the politicians accountable. A LOT of politicians need to be arrested and put on trial. The citizens of this country must take back control of our government. If this does not happen soon, the USA as we know it will fall into history.

Well - I look at the Bush/Gore race. Now that we have computers - do we really need the electoral votes? It makes me almost want to give up on voting.

I'm going to continue voting on the off chance that it still matters. That said, I don't have faith in electronic voting machines. Your vote is not punched into a card anymore, it is recorded as electronic data, which can be manipulated quite easily.

Look at Minnesota - they kept finding new batches of ballots that had not been turned into the registrar. They found them in car trunks, etc. Even paper ballots can be forged. Over the years we have sent watch dogs in to other countries to make sure they had honest elections and here it is, we don't have them. How embarrassing!
