I don't have transverse myelitis, but I know someone who has acute transverse myelitis. Her name is Sally Franz. I reviewed her book, Scrambled Leggs, and had a very long conversation on the phone with her. She is a great lady. Below are the links to the review and to the interview. Google her name and you will find information about her, including her email address. She would be a great lady for you to talk with.

Hi, A's Mamaw,

I remember the diagnosis being TM when I first starting having such excruciatig back pain, and unable to walk. I had all the tests, MRI, spinal tap.

Mine turned out to be one of the Welcome Wagons' to Multiple Sclerosis (the other was vision problems).

BoY dOeS ThAt hUrt, huh.

Did the episode(s) cause you permanent damage? and does it come and go? are you able to walk?

I know when I feel it coming on, I start a course of acyclovir, and it makes it better. It seems to stop it becoming a really terrible MS episode.
