I read in another thread that someone here has Essure. I've been looking into that as well as Adiana and I have brochures on each plus of course I've been researching the internet. I'm interested in hearing personal stories from people who are using these, as well as opinions from everyone. Do you think implantable sterilization is a good option? Is tubal ligation better?

I got Esure two years ago. It was absolutely the right choice for me. It is a procedure, not a surgery like a tubal. The procedure was quick and I got to watch the whole thing (they use cameras to see the felopian tubes). You don't have to miss a step either, you are back to full activity the very next day. You return 90 days later to check that it was successful. That is the most painful part because they fill your uterus with fluid and you cramp like no other.

Though still relatively new, studies show it has the highest success rate of any contraceptive. I have had no prolems with my Essure and I am very please that I decided on it for my form of birth control.

Only one form of birth control? Well I suppose Essure has a really low failure rate (o.2% I believe), it's always good to have a back up though. I hear that a lot of people are talking about implanon (norplant) or jadelle instead of sterilization because it has a higher success rate (failure rate 0.05%). Which is pretty exciting to know. Sorry haven't gotten essure yet, but when/if I do I think I would over tubal litigation. Faster, quicker and a bit mroe effective then a tubal as well.

I'd definitely use it as my only form of birth control. I was thinking about it because it was looking like I was going to be getting on my husband's insurance but that's not going to pan out after all. If it's a lot more expensive than Paragard I won't be able to pay for it outright. Perhaps we will look into vasectomy, but I'd prefer something for me and I liked the idea of Essure since it's not much different than the IUD process.
