BellaOnline Forums Family Special Needs Children Down Syndrome Awareness - Life Goes On

If you are fans of the wonderful Robin Trocki and charming Lauren Potter on the hit show Glee, you may be able to imagine how aspiring actors, families and friends of people with Down syndrome felt about the first show to feature a main character with Down syndrome.

It has been twenty years since Chris Burke first appeared as Corky Thatcher in the television show Life Goes On. Your local public library may have the first season DVD or The Book of Life Goes On. I hope our parent group libraries include them! (If not, please order and buy locally whenever possible to help raise awareness in your community.)

I'm sure that parents of young children would enjoy this part of the cultural history of Down syndrome and could use the show to help celebrate the accomplishments of all those who paved the way for all our sons and daughters.

I was quite pleased with the way they introduced both characters with Down Syndrome on this show.

I love Glee, and since the show is so popular, it can only do good to promoting others with Down Syndrome on TV too.,

Interesting too that in the last episode of Glee they also took on the notion of how people talk about people with disabilities too - another plus!
