Hello Krissy,
Nice to hear about your bettas..I'm sorry about your sister's Phantom.. When you get these fish at places like Walmart, you never know what they may have..they are usually in pretty poor condition. I commend you for trying to save these little guys though! Bravo!
About putting 2 females in with your male...not really a good idea. These fish are very aggressive and need to be kept seperate from each other, although you may sometimes come accross some that do ok with others..that's not usually the case. If you have a tank big enough you can keep females together...as long as there is plenty of room for them to find thier own nitch in the tank. But even then sometimes you run accross a very aggressive female that will not do well with other girls.
I had 2 females in a 5 gallon tank and they did fine...until I shifted them into a 1 1/2 gallon tank..(needed the 5 gallon for something else)..then I had to remove one as the other became very aggressive towards her.
Try putting some females together..give them plenty of hidy places to get away from each other when they "vant to be alone", but keep an eye on them for awhile to be sure they will work out together.
