With all of the rain and flooding that we've been having we have had those nasty fire ant hills popping up all over the yard. I'm actually afraid of walking outside at night for fear I'll step on one. A little girl had to be taken to the Emergency room from the ballfield the other night because she got into a nest while she was playing (with a lot of other kids so I don't know how they manage to keep from being stung) in a big sand pile that the field keepers have on hand to fill in low spots on the field. Luckily somebody had liquid benadryl in their purse to give her on the spot and the ER is only a couple blocks away.
Even though I'm very afraid of them, I don't like using chemicals and poison on my yard. So, here's how I plan to try to
kill fire ants without chemicals.
People say this method works, but I haven't used it yet. So, I'm open to suggestions for other ways to eliminate all these pesky fire ant mounds all over my yard and lining my sidewalk and driveway! I live in fear that one of the children will wander off into one and can't let them outside without herding them about.
