I got a new orchid for mothers day and I have an orchid pot that I put it in. The orchid is in a plastic container and is still blooming, but I am wondering if it is ok to leave it in the plastic container. Any insight?

I would leave it in the plastic container, especially while it is blooming. If it keeps blooming, it's happy!

Thanks SheilaL. One of the spikes quit blooming and has turned brown halfway up, but I figured to leave it until it was totally dead. The other spike looks like it is about to give up. So I didn't know if I should repot or not after the flowers are gone. I guess I just think I should repot plants ever so often. I do with my houseplants but usually it is when they get too big for their pot or need to be watered very frequently. Oh and welcome! Connie

Leave it in the plastic pot - ceramic pots can be toxic to orchids! Something in the paint... If you want to dress it up, put the plastic pot inside a ceramic one.

Have you dug hole on the plastic container? Some experts recommend this. You are lucky enough that your orchids are still blooming. It's not right to repot orchids when they are in bloom.

Plastic is not good for the environment. So, it's better to avoid plastic container.

I would suggest to cut both spikes and leave a plant for recover. Make sure you check roots (that plant is not over watered) and inspect for diseases on plant.
