Do you get your recommended servings of fruits and vegetables? It's so hard for me to get this in. I have the intention too, but then don't. Am I alone here? I actually like fruit, but never think to eat it. I know it kinda sounds silly, but by the time I remember to check my produce drawer, a lot of the fruit has gone bad. I'm thinking about trying the chilled fruit from Del Monte. Anbody tried it? It's jarred, cut up fruit pieces, but it's in the refridgerated setction. Looks pretty good. Figure that way, I can keep fruit on hand for when I want it without having to worry about it going bad and wasting money. Here's a coupon if you want one: bit.ly/qYT4q (Looks weird, but if you just cut and paste eaxtly like that it will work.)

TheUSDA Food Pyramid recommends 9 vegetable and fruit servings a day-- although a serving is actually quite small, like half a banana or a small apple. Fruits are carbohydrates and actually provide quite a bit of sugar, so most of us are better off making those 9 servings primarily vegetables. Fruit is great for desert, to satisfy that sweet craving that sometimes follow a meal.
I have a few concerns about packaged fruit cups: check the label for added sugar, since many are in a sugary solution to prevent discoloration. And compare costs. Fresh or frozen fruit is generally much cheaper than individual fruit cup portions.

I know exactly what you mean! At this moment I have a killo of dark plums in my fridge that have been there since October, Still good, but I never eat even one. I'm thinking, " I'll make a jam ". Yeh right, The only fruit that gets eaten by me is the odd banana, mandarine, or cherries when in season. I don't know why, I just leave them there to rot. I'm with you. Tinned pinapple, and I'm there. Buy it fresh, and I throw away half.Bad girl!!

Tip - don't hide the fruit in your fridge! Put it out where you see - and grab - it!

I agree Megan. When I put the fruit in a basket in the kitchen or in the fridge - it would spoil before anyone ate it. I find that by placing a BIG bowl of different kinds of fruit on the dining room table that everyone walks past to get to any other room, it goes reallly fast.

I see I'm not alone in neglecting my fruit/vegetable intake. I've made a new start this spring. I'm making an effort to buy more at the store and plan every meal around the produce.

Fruits are great as anti-depressants, so I couldn't live without them for quite a while (long story), but now that I'm better, I cut down the fruit intake to maybe 1-2 and then eat veggies. I used to eat 5 different kinds of fruits and then maybe 2-3 portions of veggies everyday. It was very very helpful.
