Hello, I am currently at 40 weeks, having irregular contractions from 5-7 mins apart, dilated to 3cm but not effaced this little man is very active and is very healthy to come out he is just choosing not to. I have heard of having sex, walking, rasberry leaf tea, evening primrose oil. Anything else would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

How long have you been dilated?

If this is your first pregnancy, then you might just have to wait a little longer.

Also, has your baby "dropped"? Does he feel lower in your pelvis than before? That is one of the biggest signs that it is getting to be time when your weight shifts downward and you start feeling more pressure on your pelvis. Then your cervix will start to thin out more.

Just be sure to use this time to get some sleep, because you will be wanting it once the munchkin comes along!

Last Monday I was dilated to 1cm then went to the hospital on Sunday night because contractions were becoming very close hoping to deliver the little man then they said I was dilated to 3cms. Had my doctor appointment today and I am still at 3cms. This is my second baby and he dropped 3 weeks ago. Lol I can handle the screaming, fussing, getting up to feed and change in the middle of the night the uncomfortableness I can't stand!

Your body has sustained this life for months, it will release it when it's ready. I know it's uncomfortable, and hard to be patient. Keep the faith, no one has ever been pregnant forever. All those "points of measurement" can vary, so forget about the numbers and just know that nature unfolds things perfectly in due time. All is well smile

I feel your frustration! My daugter was 3 weeks overdue & then labor was induced. She was so "old" she had cracks in her skin around her ankles & wrists when she was born. Perfectly healthy, just not in any hurry to come out. That was 26 years ago and waiting for her to be born was agonizing!

My son was 11 days overdue and again, induced.

My granddaughter who's 19 months old now was two weeks overdue, too. She didn't have to be induced, though.

My daughter is pregnant again & has decided not to expect this baby on his "due date", but to know he'll probably take some extra time. Seems to be a family tradition. smile

My 4th child was a 10 month baby, and I refused to have any interventions. I know too well the discomfort and emotional strain of going day after day with contractions but no delivery. But when DD#3 finally arrived she popped out into the MDs hands, arched her back, raised her head and looked around. The MD yelled, "Will you LOOK at this baby!" Well sure, after all she was a month old!
The good thing about her tardiness is that she was a calm baby, slept the night through from the start, and was really easy to take care of. (And she still marches to her own drummer!)
The point of the story is, babies come when they are ready, and yours will too.
