When you eat, always eat in moderation. Scientists have found that overloading on fats can set up a cocaine like addiction in your brain -

Fatty Foods and Addiction

They've found this same sort of effect with sugary foods in the past. If you gorge on something, your body gets used to it and craves more. So if you eat tons of potato chips, your body gets used to the "potato chip high" and then wants even more of them.

The real lesson here is to EAT HEALTHY FOOD. Eat fresh food. Drink lots of water, eat fiber. The more healthy you eat, the better you feel - meaning the more you are active, and the more your body maintains itself well!

Do you find yourself craving fatty foods like cheesecake?

I'm not sure why someone would be thankful for addiction? That's an unusual stance to take ...?

Well, I guess some addictions are positive? Like being addicted to running, or something like that?

My point of view on that would be that it's good to enjoy running, but any time something crosses into addiction, it's gone too far smile

I'm just a couple of days into induction and am jones-ing for salty snacks and you guessed it cheesecake.

My first day of induction I remembered I had promised to make a cheesecake for a friend's birthday. I used my New York Cheesecake recipe and substituted Splenda for the sugar. That cake I left at her house has been on my mind a lot today! But so far I've resisted visiting her just to get a slice!

lol that's good that you're resisting the pull! Luckily I don't like cheesecake so I don't get lured by that. We all have our own cravings.

Salty snacks shouldn't be too bad - you can eat nuts soon I think right? A key reason you avoid them at the very beginning is that many people develop allergies to nuts over the years and this is a way to figure out if it's happened to you. That way when you introduce them slowly back into your diet you can see if they affect you.

It's amazing how many adults develop allergies to gluten, to milk, and to nuts but never realize it. They just think their feeling "not great" is part of getting old.

Today I went to the store and bought vine tomatoes, sprouts, butter lettuce, fresh strawberries and tofu. i was so excited to make myself a great sandwich with those and some whole grain bread.

Behind me in the checkout line a woman had a huge vat of ice cream and a three dozen donut box of pastries. I actually felt ill looking at her stuff. My stuff looked delicious and her looked...just...blech. Hard to describe. But it felt good to realize i craved fresh yummy produce instead of oils, fats and sugar.
