Last week, my Mother fell at work. I went up to SC for her surgery on Friday and apparently my hawks contacted their kinfolk. Saw several on my drive up, and one visited each day to screech at me while I was helping my Mother. With 8 screws and a metal plate in her wrist, she was on some heavy duty pain killers. She kept asking "Is that a hawk making all that noise?"

We got her settled in at my sister's house for the week and I had to run by JoAnn's before leaving this afternoon. I'm on a major road and to my surprise so is a young emu!

I've seen some exotic animals while traveling lately.

lcp - I hope your Mother is ok and I pray for healing for her. The pain must be very difficult for her - I hope the pills work.

I have only seen one emu in my entire life. It is on a little farm not far from here.

Still watching for baby rabbits to appear. Saw a coyote out by Pyramid Lake today while on a drive.

When out driving around yesterday, my Mom, brother and I saw about 100 marmots running across a field. We were stunned to see so many! Usually we only see 2 or 3.

That was one mighty ritual!

Today I am seeing several Jack Rabbits running around the little mountain. What is this - spring or something?

We saw some wild horses on our day trip to Virginia City a few days ago. They were so pretty.

Every time a Red Tail Hawk comes soaring by I grab my camera (cell phone) to run out and get a picture. When they are hovering above I can see the beautiful design of their feathers on the underside of the wings. I have been trying to get a pic of this, but by the time I get out there, the Hawk has flown further away and my cell phone camera does not zoom in for close ups!

Some day, I will get a good camera with zoom capabilities.

Do you hear what I hear?

I love to sit on my secluded patio at night and listen to the sounds of Nature. Right now the crickets are sounding out with a very loud chorus! Little tree frogs are competing for attention out there.

I can tell if another night creature approaches from the mountain because there is sudden silence and the crickets and frogs stop their joyful sounds.

Sometimes Brother Coytote makes his prescence known by speaking to Grandmother Moon. Sometimes Sister Puma will let the community know she is on top of things by screeching out her hauntingly beautiful message that she is near.

Once in awhile I will hear an Owl ask his eternal question. When the creek fills up with snow melt I will hear the bull frogs come out and claim their place in Nature.

I love Nature and all the critters that live amongst her beauty. I can smell the desert sage when the soft rains or snow (yes, we are still getting occasional light snows here) has moistened the leaves. It is such a wonderful, sweet, fresh fragrance.

I am happy living by the little mountain and say prayers of gratitude every day to Great Spirit for giving me such peace and beauty.

Lizzy stopped by today to pay me a visit. I opened my front door and there she was on my doorstep. Here is a pic of her:

Does anyone know what kind of lizard she is? She is about 4 inches long. The dark color on her is almost black, but does not show that dark in the pic.
