I am new to this but here goes: I recently saw a bathroom rug that was made with a base of woven material with loops. Inside each loop was what felt like t-shirt material, cut in strips, about 4inches by 2 inches. It was done full with a variety of colors. I thought it was fab. Has anybody ever seen this, and, if so, where could I get the material used? I would like to design one using colors in my own bathroom.

Do you have any thrift shops like Salvation Army or Goodwill where you live? They are a great place to find used clothing. Garage Sales are another good place to look.

Hi, A little off topic perhaps, but I always save old t-shirts and make crocheted rugs. Usually for the dogs. But the cat loves to claw on them too and they stand up to that with no harm done to them. I don't mind, as they are at no cost for me. Just a little time. They go into the washing machine when dirty and come out just fine. They do take some time to get dry, and that's why I don't make them too large, no more than a square yard. When too worne I just throw them in the dust bin. Chivvie in Sweden

Hi Chivvie,
Sounds like a great idea! How wide do you cut the strips and what size crochet hook do you use?

I found instructions for sewing a t-shirt rug.
Enjoy!

Sorry for taking time to get back to you. The width depends on the thickness of the fabric and how thick-sturdy I want to make the rug. I don't want to make them too heavy or my washing machine will complain. Something between half an inch and and one inch. needle 7 mm. Then I use different stitches depending on how thick I want it; sc, dc and hdc. So there is a wide range of variations to experiment with.

Thanks Chivvie!
I think I'm going to try this out for our dog kennel.
